FEATURED NEWS AND ARTICLES FOR JULY

Journalist Martin Bashir Has Pituitary Tumor
Well-known British TV journalist Martin Bashir, 45, has been diagnosed with a benign pituitary tumor. Bashir now works for Nightline on ABC News and is famous for headline-making interviews with Princess Diana and Michael Jackson. ABC News released the following statement: "An MRI scan recently discovered a small growth on Martin Bashir's pituitary gland. Bashir's doctors have advised that no immediate action be taken as they monitor the situation month to month. Bashir is feeling well as he continues to keep a full schedule anchoring and reporting for ABC News." Doctors for Bashir reportedly discovered the adenoma via MRI after Bashir bumped his head on an overhead light on the set of Nightline and went to the hospital for stitches. His doctors have said they do not plan to operate, but rather to monitor the tumor for changes. The PNA wishes Mr. Bashir well and we hope that he gets the best possible care.

U.S. Ads Push Patients To Shop For Hospitals
The PNA is a big proponent of healthcare accountability. We are working hard to establish the criteria for pituitary centers of excellence. So we took note when USA Today recently published an article about a federal government campaign to rate hospitals. The government is now urging consumers to check the website www.hospitalcompare.hhs.gov before they choose a hospital. $300 Million Health Initiative
Time Magazine and CNN recently published an article about a new initiative to treat patients before their conditions worsen into an all-out health crisis. The $300 million initiative announced by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation will fund community health centers in 14 cities. They will target chronic illnesses like asthma and diabetes in an effort to reduce crippling costs from emergency room visits. They hope to provide a model for national health reform.
